Interesting facts about the Boston Tea Party

  1. The Boston Tea Party was an American political and mercantile protest organized by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts on the night of December 16, 1773.
  2. The Tea Act of 1773 was imposed on the American colonies by the British government, which was heavily in debt in the decade leading up to the American Revolutionary War.
  3. American colonists, frustrated by the British government for imposing “taxes without representation”, dumped 342 crates of tea imported by the British East India Company into the port.
  4. 342 cases of tea from the British East India Company weighed over 92,000 pounds of tea (46 tons).
  5. As a result of these and other protests, the East India Company’s revenues fell, which also worried the British Parliament.

The Boston Tea Party was a very important movement in our country.
  1. Smugglers imported about £900,000 of cheap foreign tea each year and although the quality was not as high as British tea, this was seen as a political protest.
  2. While Adams was not involved in the tea’s destruction, Samuel Adams was one of Boston’s most influential revolutionary leaders.
  3. The Tea Act was one of the many causes of the American Revolutionary War.
  4. After Boston, there have been at least 10 “tea parties” inspired by the original and most famous.
  5. Many people think that the Boston Tea Party took place in Boston Harbor but actually it took place on the corner of Congress Street and Purchase Street in Boston where there is even a Boston Tea Party Ship Museum.
