ANIMALS THAT BEGIN WITH THE LETTER C:

There are so many animals that start with the letter C. If you look at animals that start with the letter C, you’ll find awesome animals that start with the sound of C! I think you will agree with me when you read the fun facts about animals with the letter C.

1. cassowary

The third largest bird after the ostrich and the emu is from New Guinea! They belong to a group of flightless birds called ratites. Cassowaries are very shy. However, if they malfunction, they can cause serious injury. A cassowary’s three-toed feet have sharp claws. The second toe bears a dagger-like claw 5 inches long. It reminds me of the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park! This claw is particularly fearsome, as cassowaries sometimes kick people and animals with their enormously powerful legs.

You can read more about the C-tier cassowary here San Diego Zoo.

2. CHAMELEON

Chameleons are a family of lizards. Most can change the color of their skin to camouflage themselves or to signal their mood to other chameleons. Chameleons have the most distinctive eyes of any reptile. The upper and lower eyelids are connected and have only one hole large enough for the pupil to see through. Each eye can rotate and focus independently, allowing the chameleon to observe two different objects at the same time. This gives them a full 360 degree view all around their body. And as if that wasn’t weird enough, most have a tongue twice the length of their body! They are able to fire it at food items that come within range of their strange eyes.

You can read more about the C-tier chameleon here National Geographic.

3. CAIMAN

Caimans are closely related to alligators! Alligators are divided into true alligators and caimans. True alligators and caimans develop more slowly than the rest of the crocodiles. Your lifestyle is slower too! Because of this, they grow older than the other crocodiles. All caimans are found in South America. One species, the spectacled caiman, is also found in Central America.

4. CHINCHILLA

This cuddly animal comes from the high Andes in South America! In their usual habitat, chinchillas live either in caves or in crevices in rocks. They are good jumpers and can jump very high. Chinchillas live in colonies. The females are much larger than the males. Wild predators include hawks, skunks, cats, and dogs. Wild chinchillas appear to feed on plants, fruits, seeds, and small insects. Chinchillas are popular pets, but they require a lot of care. They should only be purchased by experienced pet owners who are aware of their needs. Chinchillas require plenty of exercise and dental care as their teeth grow continuously throughout their lives. Because they lack the ability to sweat, temperatures must be carefully controlled. The animals instinctively clean their fur by taking dust baths several times a week. They don’t bathe in the water. If they get wet, they should be dried immediately.

5. Squid

Squids are in the same family as octopus and squid! Squids have an inner shell, large eyes, and eight arms and two tentacles that they use to grab their prey. Their inner shell, called cuttlefish, is porous or full of small holes. The squid’s buoyancy can change, allowing the squid to swim lower or higher by changing the amount of gas and liquid in its chambers. Squids are sometimes called the chameleons of the sea because of their ability to change their skin color.

PLACES BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER C:

Finding words that start with the letter C will take us miles from home!

1. C stands for California

California is a state in the western United States. In 1849 gold was suddenly found and the number of people increased very quickly. The gold rush spread and attracted people from all over the world. In 1850, California became a Union state. It is the third largest state and the most populous state. This cutting-edge state is known for being at the forefront of everything from technology to movies and fashion. Still, the high cost of living prompts many Californians to move to other states like Texas.

2. C stands for Canada

North of the United States lies the second largest country in the world by area and the fourth largest country in the world by area: Canada. Canada has ten provinces and three territories. Most parts of the country experience cold or very cold climates in winter, but areas in the south experience warm summers. Much of the country is forest or tundra, with the Rocky Mountains to the west. What is the difference between a province and a territory in Canada? Provinces have their own constitutional power and authority. The territories are administered and cared for more directly by the Canadian Parliament. Despite their size, the three Canadian territories make up less than 3% of Canada’s total population. Because of the sparse population, a significant portion of the area’s funding comes from the federal government. This funding gives area residents access to a range of public services comparable to those of the provinces

3. C stands for Cuba

Cuba is an island country in the Caribbean Sea. Havana is the capital and largest city of Cuba. Cuba was originally a Spanish colony claimed by Christopher Columbus. This was the case until the Spanish-American War of 1898. After the war it was part of the United States. It gained its independence in 1902. Communist leader Fidel Castro overthrew the dictator in 1959. The US attempted to invade Cuba to regain control of the country and overthrow its communist government, but failed. The trade embargo imposed by President Kennedy in the 1960s was eased significantly under the Obama administration. US citizens can now travel directly to Cuba at certain times of the year, however, it is extremely difficult for Cubans to leave or travel to the country.
