How to Make a Watermelon Paper Plate Suncatcher:

Step 1

Cut the paper plate in half. Next, cut off the “plate” part, leaving only the textured border.

Paint the bottom half of the textured border green.

Step 2 - Make Watermelon Paper Plates, made from a cut paper plate and painted green by a boy in a blue shirt.
Don’t forget to leave some white zest for your watermelon paper plate suncatcher!

step 2

Next, cut a small rectangle of clear shelf wrap (enough to fit in the space in your paper plate).

Ask your child to cut out small circles from the black tissue paper and place them directly on the sticky side of the shelf liner.

Step 3 - Watermelon paper plate crafts cannot be completed without pink tissue paper and black tissue paper seeds.
Glue on the watermelon seeds first, then add the pink “fruity” part.

step 3

Next, place small squares of pink tissue paper on the sticky side of the shelf liner.

When the shelf liner is covered, cut another small rectangle (about the same size) and place it over the tissue paper. Cut off any frayed ends.

step 4

Place the tissue paper rectangle inside the paper plate (seed side out) and secure with tape. Cut off the excess edges to get a watermelon slice.

Step 5 - Watermelon crafts for kids using tape, pink tissue paper and black tissue paper.
Add the pink “fruit” after the seeds so the seeds stand out against the pink.

step 5

Hang in the window with tape and enjoy!

Our experience in making watermelon sun catchers

These watermelon paper plates really are the cutest thing. The sun makes the “fruity” part of this watermelon activity look so alive. The watermelon seeds really stand out against the pink, as does the rind!

On which even the white part of the bark is. Most watermelon activities only have one green skin, so I appreciate the realistic touch to this one.
