Let’s make colorful blocks of color on a piece of paper!

Since this artwork extends to the edge of the paper, it’s a good idea to prepare the surface underneath the artwork by covering it with wax paper, parchment paper, or construction paper so the clutter can come off the page without damaging the table.

Step 1 – Color paper with colorful lines

Start by drawing lines of different colors across the paper. Be sure to fill them in completely so they are firm.

  • Bright colors work best – you want colors that contrast with the black paint that will be applied in the next step.
  • color blocks will create an even more beautiful effect for the final image. We love using lots of different colors

Step 2 – Cover colorful lines with black crayon

Use the black pencil to paint over the top of your lines in rainbow color. You want a solid layer – covering as much as possible.

Alternative method: When I did this as a kid I painted over the whole picture with black paint and that worked great too.

Bend the paperclip to create a straight edge, then use it to scrape through the black layer to reveal the colors underneath.
