There are so many animals that start with the letter K. If you look at animals that start with the letter K, you’ll find awesome animals that start with the sound K! I think you will agree with me when you read the fun facts about animals with the letter K.

1. Kangaroo is an animal beginning with K

Kangaroos’ bodies are designed for jumping! They have short front legs, powerful hind legs, huge hind feet, and a powerful tail. All of this helps them jump around and their tail keeps them balanced. Along with wallabies, kangaroos belong to a family of animals called macropods, meaning “big foot.” Their big feet help them jump around! Baby kangaroos are called “joeys,” and a group of kangaroos are called “mobs.” Australia is the home of the kangaroo. Have you ever heard of the kangaroo box? Sounds pretty unreal, doesn’t it? But it’s true, they really box. It wouldn’t be cool to enter a boxing match with them. Male kangaroos compete to see which kangaroo is the toughest.

2. American kestrel is an animal beginning with K

The American kestrel is the smallest falcon in North America. Weighing from 3 to 6 ounces, a small kestrel weighs about 34 pennies. Its feather patterns in shades of blue, red, grey, brown and black make this little bird of prey a real eye-catcher! Kestrels often hunt as a family group. This gives the young birds a chance to practice their hunting skills with their parents before having to survive on their own. These amazing birds can see ultraviolet light – colors invisible to the human eye. Aside from their good looks, kestrels are also fast fliers with amazing aerobatic skills. They are a very good friend of farmers and feed mainly on insects, mice, voles, lizards and snakes!

3. King cobra is an animal beginning with K

The king cobra is the world’s longest venomous snake, reaching up to 18 feet in length. It is famous for its ferocity and extremely dangerous. The king cobra lives in Southeast Asian forests and near water. They are good swimmers and move quickly in trees and on land. King cobras typically grow to around 13 feet in length, but have been known to grow up to 18 feet. The color of the king cobra is black, brown, or dark green with yellow stripes along the body. The belly is cream colored with black stripes. The king cobra’s main diet is other snakes. However, it also eats small mammals and lizards. They are the only snake that builds nests for their eggs. The female guards the eggs until they hatch.

4. Kookaburra is an animal beginning with K

The kookaburra is a member of the tree kingfisher family. It is famous for its loud call that sounds like human laughter. There are four types of kookaburra. All four kookaburras have a similar build. All are reasonably large birds. They have short, rather round bodies and short tails. The most striking thing about a kookaburra is its large beak. They live and feed in forests. Fish is not an essential part of their diet. All kookaburras are primarily carnivores (meat eaters). They eat a range of animals from insects to snakes.

5. Komodo dragon is an animal beginning with K

The Komodo dragon is a fearsome lizard, the largest species of lizard in the world! This fearsome beast is covered in scaly skin mottled with brownish-yellow that allows it to camouflage itself and be difficult to spot when sitting still. It has short, stocky legs and a huge tail that is as long as its body. It has 60 sharp, serrated teeth and a long, yellow, forked tongue. These giant lizards live on four islands that belong to the country of Indonesia. They live in hot and dry places like grasslands or savannas. At night, they live in burrows they dug to retain heat. Komodo dragons are carnivores and therefore hunt and eat other animals. Their favorite food is deer, but they will eat almost any animal they can catch, including pigs and sometimes water buffalo. The Komodo dragon also contains deadly bacteria in its saliva. Once an animal is bitten, it will soon become ill and die. A tireless hunter, he will sometimes follow escaped prey until it collapses, though it may take a day or so. It can eat up to 80 percent of its body weight in one meal.

Next, in our words beginning with the letter K, let’s get acquainted with some beautiful places.

1. K stands for Kathmandu, Nepal

Kathmandu is the capital and largest city of the mountainous state of Nepal and is approximately 4,000 feet above sea level. Nepal is a country of records. It has the world’s highest mountain, the world’s highest lake, the highest concentration of World Heritage sites and much more. Its flag does not have four sides, but consists of two stacked triangles. The Nepalese people have never been ruled by foreigners.

2. K stands for Kansas

Kansas was named after the Kansa Indians – it means “people of the south wind”. The state’s landscape includes grassland hills, sand dunes, forests and wheat fields. No state in the country grows more wheat than Kansas. In a single year, Kansas produces enough wheat to bake 36 billion loaves of bread. It is nicknamed “Tornado Alley” because there are so many tornadoes each year. Kansas was known for its wild frontier towns like Dodge City and Wichita during the settlement of the Old West. Lawyers like Wyatt Earp and Wild Bill Hickock became famous for bringing peace to these cities.

3. K stands for Kilauea Volcano

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It is a shield-like volcano that forms the southeastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983. Unlike stereotypical volcanoes—tall with a clear peak and a caldera at the top—Kilauea features multiple craters that mark the history of its eruptions. The Kilauea Caldera is the main crater, but there are more than 10 other craters on the volcano. The summit of Mauna Kea is approximately 14,000 feet above sea level. But from its base, which sits on the sea floor, the mountain is about 33,500 feet tall – nearly a mile taller than Mount Everest in Nepal.
