The other thing I love about this paper plate sign craft is that it encourages role play. Children are usually so engrossed in screens that they don’t role-play as much. Once they complete this super fun superhero craft, they can be super themselves and save the world!

Here are the simple steps to making your own paper plate sign.

Instructions for making a Captain America shield

Step 1

First, paint the back of your largest paper plate and your smallest paper plate red and let both dry.

step 2

Meanwhile, trace a circle just big enough to fit on the smallest paper plate. Using the back of a small bowl, we drew a perfect circle onto our blue card stock using a pencil.

step 3

Cut out this circle.

step 4

Next, draw another circle of the same size, but this time on top of the white cardstock. Now you need to draw a star on the inside of this circle. This will allow the star to fit perfectly on the blue circle after cutting out.

step 5

Cut out the star.

step 6

Step 6 - Back side of the paper plate to create the handle for the shield to be held by a child

Take your sheet of black foam, carefully cut out a long strip and try to make the ends look like handles. This will be the handle that you will glue onto the paper plate to hold your shield.

step 7

Once your paper plates have dried, begin assembling the sign by hot gluing the plates together, then adding the blue circle and star.

step 8

Finally, turn the entire shield over and glue the black foam piece to the back of the panel. Let dry.
