Pancake painting activity

This is a really easy edible art project… Super easy and super fun! You can explore colors with pancakes and food coloring and make beautiful pictures on your pancakes.

Instead of spreading boring old syrup on your pancakes, why not paint them! I was surprised when the kids actually used less syrup when painting their pancakes than when they drizzled their pancakes or dipped bites in a puddle of syrup.

This activity actually makes pancakes a healthier option! You can use honey instead of syrup.

Our experience of painting pancakes

Red, blue, yellow, green pancake on a paper plate - painting pancakes - fun from the kids activity blog

We used an egg carton to “hold the color” as it doesn’t tip over easily, holds small portions of syrup, and best of all, it’s disposable! I love art projects with easy cleaning!

Add about 3 drops to about a tablespoon of syrup and have fun coloring and eating your breakfast. Of course, once you start doing this, pancake breakfasts will never be the same!

As you can see, it was more about exploring colors than actual images. And that’s okay, it helps kids practice their fine motor skills and explore with their imaginations.
