What is a dump cake?
As previously mentioned, a dump cake is similar to a cobbler. It’s an American dessert that uses a cake mix as a topping, usually covered with chunks of butter or melted butter. It is layered together in a casserole dish without mixing. As the name suggests, you basically “pour” the ingredients into a casserole dish and then bake them. There are so many different types of dump cake you can make, including a blueberry dump cake, a pineapple dump cake, or seasonal flavors like this pumpkin dump cake.
Here’s how to make this easy peach dump cake recipe
The steps to prepare this delicious dessert are very simple. Once your peaches are ready, layer the dry cake mix directly on top without mixing. I love the smell of cinnamon. The cinnamon and syrup from the canned peaches go so well together and you can almost smell it caramelizing as it bakes in the oven. Your little ones will probably come into the kitchen every 5 minutes and ask you if it’s ready to eat.
Ingredients needed to make Peach Dump Pie
- Canned sliced peaches in syrup
- Almond Extract – Don’t have almond extract? Use vanilla!
- Vanilla Cake Mix – Any brand you prefer!
- Unsalted Butter – Make sure it’s unsalted, as salted butter gives the dump cake a heartier flavor
Instructions for canned peach cake
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
Prepare your 9 x 13 baking pan with cooking spray.
Tip: You can use a metal or glass one.
Scatter the canned peaches evenly over the bottom of the casserole dish. Sprinkle the top of the peaches with ground cinnamon. Add almond extract and stir gently.
Cover the peach mixture with the dry cake mix. Use a spoon to spread it evenly to cover all the peaches.
Tip: Remember not to mix the cake mix with the peaches.
Melt the butter in the microwave and pour it over the cake mix as evenly as possible.
Tip: don’t stir.
Bake in the oven for about 40-45 minutes. The cake on top will be beautifully golden brown while the peaches on the bottom will be thick and bubbly.
Allow the dump cake to cool for a few minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature. Any leftover peach dump cake can be refrigerated for 3 days.
